The Ironies of History

Heard the other day that much of the southwest of the U.S. is now inhabited by folks who stem from Mexico.  Well, that is only just.  For, after all, that is the area the U.S. seized from Mexico in the trumped up war staged by President James K. Polk.

Engulfed by “Spirituality”

This is really getting out of hand.  Not only do we have religious groups prattling on about “spirituality,” but, the other day I received a catalogue from Daedalus Books, which had a section “Spirituality.”

How can agnostics and atheists escape?

Jeff Jacoby and the Democrats

Jeff Jacoby, who, for years, I have thought is paid by the Boston Globe to get out of the wrong side of the bed each morning, came up with an interesting proposition in his column last week.  He claimed that the Democrats want the U.S. to lose the Iraq war.  Well, this caused me to do some soul searching - something rarely elicited by what Jacoby writes.  I cannot speak for the Democratic party, but, for myself, I think it would be a good thing for our country were we to lose “George Bush’s War.”  This might cause us to rethink our blossoming imperial ambitions.

Governor Corzine

I am happy to see that Governor Jon S. Corzine of New Jersey is mending, having had several bones broken in his recent automobile accident.  Now, I haven’t been on the Garden State Parkway for a quite a few years, but, my recollection is that the speed limit is 65 MPH.  But, it is reported that the state trooper who was driving the Governor’s SUV was going 91 MPH!

And, unfortunately, the Gov. was not wearing his seat belt.  Not exactly a good role model for the kids of the state.
