Asch situation: The condition one encounters during an IRS audit.

Asparagus: A vegetable which generally does not lend itself to frying.

Asperity: The manner of a moralist condemning sins he himself often commits.

Asphodel: A flower that tends to grown in meadows where goddesses walk.

Asshole: Container frequently mistaken for its contents.

Assurance: Virtue in a crowd but decidedly an irritation at home.

Asteroid: Big rock which threatens to smash the earth to bits in Hollywood melodramas.

Astrologer: Scientist of non-science.

Astronomy Starlore Asymbolia: Disorder which becomes wildly contagious at the Southern Baptist Convention.

Atavism: Something we thought we got rid of but which has managed to hang around in order to keep horror movies healthy.
