Interesting to watch the Senate hearings on the nomination of Michael Mukasey as the new Attorney General. He was asked his opinion of water boarding, and replied that if it were torture, it would be unconstitutional!
Well, now! Could water boarding be a game? Just some fun to give the victim the sense that he is being drowned? How jolly!
How could it be anything but torture?
Makes one wonder what happens to otherwise sensible persons when they try to wiggle out of making a simple declarative sentence that water boarding is, indeed, torture.
My suspicion is that Mukasey is trying to cover the rear end of our president. After all, should he declare that water boarding is torture and it later is revealed that Dubya approved the practice all hell would break loose!
